About The Meadow Brook Hall Wedding Venue

350 Estate Drive, Rochester, Michigan 48309

Meadow Brook Hall is an estate with a history just as rich as its design. The mansion was commissioned by Matilda Dodge Wilson, the widow of automotive giant John Dodge. The couple had purchased the land for the property in 1908 and built up a cattle farm while John and his brother grew the Dodge company. John died in 1920 following the Spanish Flu pandemic, leaving Matilda heartbroken with a massive fortune. She found comfort in her church, and several years following her husband’s death, she met Alfred Wilson, one of the congregants. The pair fell in love and began to design Meadow Brook Hall together.

The house is the perfect representation of the opulence of the 1920s. Matilda had always loved hosting parties and needed a house where she could entertain. She wanted to be able to welcome hundreds of people while still having a functional space for her own family of four. The house took three years to finish and cost around $4 million. It now stands as the fourth-largest historic estate in the country. The house opened up to the public in 1971 and has continued Matilda’s tradition of throwing grand parties for all occasions! When you book this space for your wedding, you can count on unparalleled luxury while surrounded by the family’s priceless artwork and artifacts built up over decades of collecting. Get ready for backdrops you literally cannot find anywhere else!

Details of the Grounds

When you book Meadow Brook for your wedding, you will have exclusive use of the grounds. If you would like, you can use the estate to get ready ahead of your ceremony. Grooms can get ready down in the library. This space is moody and elegant, with wood-paneled walls illuminated by large windows. It tends to be especially great for your photos! Meanwhile, the bride will have access to the Service Porch. As you get ready, you will have cozy furniture, walls of windows, and ample space to slip into your dress.

Most weddings at Meadow Brook Hall happen outside in the gardens. The venue has several spots ideal for your ceremony. One of the best options is in front of the fountain. This space has a large stone walkway running across the lawn, giving you the perfect aisle. As you exchange your vows, you will have lush trees and hedges in the backdrop.

Another popular spot is in front of the estate itself. You can use the towering French windows as your backdrop as you exchange your vows.

Meadow Brook Hall can be used all year long. Those who prefer an indoor ceremony can use the ballroom. This Gothic, two-story room features a working fireplace, a vaulted ceiling, and stained glass windows. Trust me, it is going to look stunning as the backdrop of your pictures!

Once it is time for your cocktail hour, you will have the option of either staying inside and using the entryway or moving things outside and sharing some drinks in front of the estate.

Finish Off With A Gorgeous Reception

Finally, it will be time for your reception. If you would prefer to have an outdoor dinner, the venue has a tented area where you can gather with your favorite people. When the venue set up this area, they went all out, creating a covered space that doesn’t compromise on luxury! The sides feature windows so you can keep the views on prominent display. You can also add drapery as needed.

Those who prefer to have an indoor reception can keep things in the ballroom, taking advantage of the pristine yet vintage interiors. With enough space to host up to 300 guests, Meadow Brook Hall is a fabulous option for weddings of all sizes!

Photography Opportunities

Meadow Brook Hall has a number of spaces ideal for your photos. One of my favorite spots is the grand staircase. This area was actually designed specifically for weddings! When Matilda Dodge Wilson commissioned the house, she made sure to include a space where her daughter, Frances, could make her grand entrance. Today, the staircase remains a great spot to take pictures of your dress.

If you decide to do a first look picture, the gardens are a must! The walkways going past the Grecian columns will give you the perfect backdrop for this intimate moment.

For your group photos, the land surrounding the house is your place. You can celebrate this grand building while basking in the natural light.
