Great Oaks Country Club was founded in 1971 by the Slavik family. Originally a Black Angus Farm, it was purchased with the goal of transforming the property into a gathering space for the greater Detroit area. One of the first priorities was building a golf course. The land was designed by the renowned course architect William Newcomb and then renovated again in 2006. Since then, it has gone on to host events like the Michigan Amateur Qualifier and the Michigan Ladies Amateur.
Beyond the course, the buyers decided to take the original on-site mansion and transform it into a clubhouse where people could come and spend a few hours escaping from the stress of everyday life. After this original transformation, it was replaced entirely with a 43,000-square-foot clubhouse. This building now has pretty much everything, including relaxing common spaces as well as phenomenal dining options. Its upscale design and world-class amenities will ensure your celebration is nothing short of a dream!
Details of the Grounds
With Great Oaks Country Club, you can start out your celebration early in the morning in their get-ready suites. Your party will have access to the Bridal Suite, where you will have a stylish space to spend the next few hours! This room has been equipped with large makeup vanities, a full-length mirror, and cozy yet modern furniture. It’s the perfect spot to make some memories with all of your best friends before it’s time to walk down the aisle! Meanwhile, the groom will be able to use the Board Room for this portion of the day.
For your ceremony, you will be able to choose from indoor and outdoor options. If you ask me, the event lawn is the ideal place to host your service! Nestled just off the clubhouse patio, this spot features a lush green, perfectly flat lawn where your guests can be comfortably seated. You can place your altar at the front of this area and get the rolling hills as well as the iron clock showing off in the background. If you do prefer an indoor space, the venue can set you up in the banquet hall, where you’ll have the floor-to-ceiling windows just behind you.
The patio is the best spot for your cocktail hour. As you roam around the grounds for your portraits, your guests can take in the views while sipping on expertly prepared cocktails!
Magical Great Oaks Country Club Wedding Receptions
Finally, it will be time for your reception. This is where the dining room inside the clubhouse is going to shine! This space has massive windows that extend from the floor all the way up to the cathedral ceilings. The walls have been painted a delicate shade of white, while the accents have been decorated with soft gray. While the room does have carpet, the color and print are neutral enough to ensure they don’t clash with your style of choice. The massive brass chandeliers pull the entire space together, giving you some illumination late into the night. With Great Oaks Country Club, you will be able to accommodate up to 225 guests.
Photography Opportunities
Throughout your wedding day, you will have access to countless photo backdrops! As you get ready, the bridal suite will be the best spot for candid pictures. The modern and colorful furniture will serve as a fantastic prop as you take some pictures with your best friends. Then, once you are completely ready for the day, you can head just outside of the clubhouse and take some pictures in the sun.
For your couple’s portraits, you can use a golf cart to explore the grounds and find different options. My personal favorites are on top of the wooden bridge in front of the fountain, amidst the namesake oaks, and by the scenic pond.
Once it’s time for your group portraits, you will love the event lawn! This spot is gorgeous all day long, but it becomes downright dreamy once golden hour hits. You can also use the clock as your backdrop.

Throughout your wedding day, Great Oaks is going to make sure you have everything you need for a flawless experience! They have planning services as well as coordination options that will help you manage all the little details. Long before your celebration, you will work with their culinary team to create the perfect meal! You will have until two weeks before your wedding to finalize your menu. The venue is going to handle all drink services and ensure your guests have access to delicious cocktails to keep the party flowing!
The venue has add-on options to take your day over the top. You can choose to rent additional rooms where your guests can gather throughout your day. They have chair upgrades, up lighting, and staging. Additionally, you can choose to pay for a ceremony arch set-up. Great Oaks is a disability-accessible course that will ensure all of your guests can celebrate in comfort!
